Encore

Our Senior Adult ministry, which goes by the name ENCORE, is led by our Pastor to Senior Adults.  We provide Bible study/prayer groups that meet both day and evening.  In addition, we have evening fellowships, evening dine-outs at local restaurants, day trips to points of interest in East Texas, an annual retreat, and our wonderful Saturday potlucks.  Our newsletter the “Encore Echo” keeps everyone informed.  This is a very caring group that looks out for each other by providing meals when needed, transportation, hospital visits, or any number of things perceived as needs.  If you are looking for an enriching experience and lots of new friends, come join us!

Ministry leaders:

 Joe and Delma Coppinger

I was born and grew up in the Cross Plains/Cottonwood area which is about 30 miles north of Brownwood, Texas.  I became a Christian while serving in the U.S. Navy and soon sensed the call to enter full-time Christian ministry.  I graduated from Biola University in 1962, spent one year at Dallas Theological Seminary, and attended and graduated from Talbot Theological Seminary.  I served on pastoral staff and was senior pastor in churches in Southern California and Phoenix, Arizona.  Because of an extended illness, I left the full-time ministry and taught high school English for the next 26 years.  I also held part-time or bi-vocational pastorates in three different churches during that time.  My wife was in bank management for over twenty years, and in 1994 we both retired and came to Longview to be near our son and daughter-in-law.  Our son, Dr. Stanley Coppinger, is Associate Vice-President in charge of “academic affairs” at LeTourneau University.  I helped to begin a senior adult ministry here at FBC four years ago and was invited to join the church staff in 2008 as Pastor to Senior Adults.  It has been an unbelievable blessing for me to serve in this capacity.         Joe Coppinger
