In place of having our usual men’s retreat in January, we are making plans to have a service project to Outdoor Legacy. Outdoor Legacy is a ministry run by Chuck and Sherry Farneth to men and boys located in Heber Springs, Arkansas on the Little Red River. Chuck was our speaker at our last men’s retreat in 2008. We have also stayed at their Driftwood Lodge during fly fish retreats.
They have purchased some property across the road from their place to expand their ministry. The new property has a mobile home, shop building, several open acres of land, and access to a pond. They are wanting to convert the shop building into a bunk house that would have a kitchen, bathrooms, area for bunk beds, living area with big screen TV, etc. This would give them the ability to house more folks for retreats and things like that. Their lodge has 6 rooms and can currently house only about 12 guys.
To date, they have taken out some walls of bunk house, removed existing bathroom fixtures, and taken off wall coverings. They have received several donations of materials like insulation, windows, kitchen cabinets, furniture, etc. Their next steps are to install HVAC, redo the plumbing, and treat for termites. Hopefully, this work will be completed by January and would be ready for some light carpentry, insulation, and sheet rock.
Our goal would be to go up there in January and make some great progress in this work and be blessed in the process. We have chosen a much wider range of dates for this project in the hopes of making it accessable to as many men as possible. You are welcome to stay the entire ten days or to pick one or the other weekends, or any days you can.
Groups would arrive on Friday night, work on the bunk house on Saturday. Then on Sunday have free time to enjoy an activity such as fly fishing or take a hike up Sugar Loaf Mountain, just to name a couple. Then head home Sunday evening.
